Coventry vs Exeter City Preview and Predictions

Coventry City vs Exeter City
English League Two Play-Off Final
Date: Monday, 28 May 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium, London.

Coventry City proved the quality and confirmed the favourites tag by trashing Notts County 1-4 on the road last Friday away at Meadow Lane to book a spot in the promotional final against Exeter City. The Sky Blues were under a huge pressure after being held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the tie at their Ricoh Arena, but the immensely-talented attacking line (for League Two conditions) managed to put up a super strong showing.

Maxime Biamou bagged a brace, team’s top scorer Mark McNulty scored one himself, while the final score was set by right winger Tom Bayliss. The Sky Blues thus gained the much-needed confidence boost ahead of the huge final at Wembley.

Exeter City took advantage of the electrifying atmosphere at their St. James’ Park to clinch a rather comfortable 3-1 victory over Lincoln City after a goalless first leg at Sincil Bank Stadium. Team’s star man Jayden Stockley was the one who bagged the first goal of the semi-final tie midway through the first half of the reverse fixture, while Boateng and Harley extended the lead in the second half to make it 3-0 before the 70th minute of the game.

Coventry City vs Exeter City Head-to-head

  • Teams took a win each in this term of League Two.
  • They had previously locked horns just once and it happened back in October 2014 when the Sky Blues took a 3-1 victory in the EFL Trophy clash.
  • Low-scoring contest were seen when clubs played each other in the regular season this term.

Coventry City vs Exeter City Predictions

Mark McNulty and Maxime Biamou look to be a perfect match to each other in the final third as they bagged four of team’s five goals in the semi-final tie against the Magpies. They will no doubts be a huge threat to Exeter’s goal and we see them as a huge advantage for Robins’ side in this match-up.

The Grecians did show fairly respectable defensive performances conceding just a single goal in two semi-final legs with Lincoln City, but they’ll be up against the strongest attacking line-up at this level of the competition.

On the other hand, this might be one of the last opportunities for Paul Tisdale to finally get Exeter City into the third tier after their long-term manager (12 years in charge) fell on the last obstacle in the previous term.

We expect a huge battle which could produce goals as both managers have the luxury of seeing their predators enjoying a superb form coming into this final. You can back goals at both ends at 1.90 and it will be our top betting suggestion for this one. Alternatively, we’ll back Coventry City to qualify to League One at 1.61 based on everything written above.
