Costa Rica are on a downward slide in calender year 2017. The team that impressed everyone at the 2014 FIFA World Cups in Brazil are now in a tought tussle in their qualification campaign for 2018 edition.
Since starting of the fifth stage of qualifiers on flying colors with back to back wins against T&T and USA, the La Tricolor have faded from the limelight after failing to register a win in their next three games. The downfall started with a 2-0 away loss at Mexico, which was followed by draws against two teams they were easily expected to beat on any given day, the Honduras and Panama. Yet, Costa Rica remains at second spot in the table, but the fourth placed Panama is just 2 points behind.
On the other hand, Trinidad & Tobago are the weakest team in the group and rightfully stay at the foot of the table. They did bagged a surprise win against Panama at home, but the remaining four matches were defeats.
However, the poor start by USA and the current form of Costa Rica had put the Soca Warriors in a favourable position to claw back into the qualification spots. They are only 5 points behind the second and third placed Costa Rica and USA.
