Costa Rica vs Jamaica
International Friendlies
Date: Wednesday, 27 March 2019
Kick-Off at 02:00 UK / 03:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica (San Jose).

Costa Rica will be clear favourites to see off Jamaica in a friendly between two CONCACAF zone rivals on Tuesday evening in San Jose. The hosts have had much more success in the past decade and they’ve practically been a formidable force in CONCACAF circles alongside Mexico.

The hosts featured the last couple of World Cup editions and they have much more quality in their ranks compared to most of other countries in their zone. However, Los Ticos failed to match a strong World Cu run from 2014 when they were one of the most pleasant surprises of the entire tournament in Brazil. They did not leave such impact last summer in Russia after seeing an early group phase exit in the group with Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia.

The poor World Cup run seems to have affected team’s spirits as they went on to lose four consecutive friendlies showing a massive lack of meticulousness at the back. Los Ticos conceded at least three goals in each of these defeats. They did raise confidence with a pair of two separate 3-2 victories over Chile and Peru in November last year and will generally come into this tie in good mood.

Costa Rica vs Jamaica: Head-to-head

These two sides battled it out twice in the previous WC Qualification campaign.

Costa Rica won the home tie 3-0, while Reggae Boyz managed to hold them to a 1-1 draw in front of their fans.

Overall, Costa Rica were the dominant force in this match-up with 11 wins, 8 draws and 1 loss in last 20 encounters between these two likes.

Interestingly, three of last four H2H games saw goals scored at both ends.

Costa Rica vs Jamaica: Prediction

Jamaica are far from being among best teams in CONCACAF zone. They did not reach the final stage of WC Qualifications and they lack quality to stay competitive against stronger teams. The team led by Theodore Whitmore did win three on the spin in 2018, but these victories will count for little knowing they’ve played Cayman Islands, Bonaire and Suriname along the way.

Los Ticos should feature here with a strong line-up which includes Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell. The home win should not come in question as we expect the hosts to dominate from the very first whistle.
