Cork City vs Legia Warsaw
UEFA Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 10 July 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Turner’s Cross, Cork.
The timing for the kick off to the new European adventure could have been better for Cork City who will head into the first leg of their tie with Polish champions Legia Warsaw after clinching juts a single point in last two league rounds. Such negative run saw the drop to second place as new leaders Dundalk escaped on a four-point gap after 25 rounds of the Premier Division season.
Can John Caulfield’s troops find the way to bounce back and offer their best showing on Tuesday evening when they are about to take on a much stronger opposition, at least compared to the one they are accustomed to in domestic affairs.
Legia enjoyed a remarkably successful finish of the Championship Round in the previous term of Ekstraklasa. They continued such an excellent spell of form in the pre-season which saw the team bag as many as 13 goals in three consecutive wins over Mazur Karcew, Stal Mielec and Viitorul.
Cork City vs Legia Warsaw: Head-to-head
This will be the first ever head to head meeting between Cork City and Legia Warsaw.
Cork City vs Legia Warsaw: Prediction
The hosts are back to the most elite football competition after a 12-year break, following the last term’s title which saw the Rebel Army end Dundalk’s Premier Division dominance.
Making a deep run will, however, be a super challenging task as the lack of European experience might well hurt Cork City’s ambitions in the tie with the Polish heavyweights.
The lone advantage for the hosts might lie in the fact they are in the midst of the new season, but we believe it will count for little as Legia showed a superb form in pre-season friendlies.
The visitors were thriving in the final third in recent ties which is why we’ll go for them to score two or more goals on the day at the odds of 1.91.
