Club America vs Real Madrid
FIFA Club World Cup Semi-final
Date: Thursday, 15th December, 2016.
Kick-Off at 10:30 am UK
Venue: International Stadium Yokohama.

Real Madrid take on Club America from Mexico in the first semi-final of the 2016 edition of FIFA Club World Cup held in Yokohama, Japan. Both teams have earned their place in the competition after winning the 2015/16 edition of their respective continental tournament; with Madrid representing UEFA and America the CONCACAF section.

Club America came back from a goal down to defeat Asian champions Jeonbuk Motors by a 2-1 margin on Sunday to book their place in the semi-final of the competition. This is their third appearance at the inter-continental competition, the first in 2006 and a second time last year. It was FC Barcelona who knocked them out in the semi-finals of 2006, while they failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals last season.

The Blancos are coming on the back of some excellent run this term and extended their unbeaten run in all tournaments to 35 matches last weekend. They won their maiden Club World Cup title in their previous appearance on 2014, after defeating Argentinian club San Lorenzo in the finals. Before that, they thrashed a Mexican side San Lorenzo in the quarter finals by a massive 4-0 margin.

Club America vs Real Madrid: Head-to-head Stats

The only recent meeting between CF America and Real Madrid was in a pre-season friendly on August 2010. The Los Blancos came on top on that occasion, which was a 3-2 thriller. The winning goal was scored by Cristiano Ronaldo through one of his trademark free-kick in the 82nd minute of the match.

Club America vs Real Madrid: Head-to-head Stats

A similar performance like in the quarter finals against Jeonbuk Motors will not be enough for America to overpower Real Madrid in the semi-finals. Their head-coach Ricardo La Volpe already indicated that his team is aware of the challenge and they are ready to fight hard for a place in the final against their superior European opponents.

He might have a point here as Real’s defense hasn’t looked convincing in the recent outings. However, it is pretty sure that Madrid will score here at any cost, so America’s only chance to do the impossible by outscoring their opponents. We can expect an entertaining encounter at International Stadium Yokohama as two different styles of football clashes for glory.
