China started the third round of their World Cup Qualifying campaign with a defeat at South Korea. And they will be looking forward from where they left off, but their Tuesday’s opponent Iran is also a difficult proposition.

Iran didn’t have the easiest of the matches against a well composed and organized Qatar time, who are in some form in recent months. The dead-lock was only broken in the 90th minute by Heerenveen striker Reza Ghoochannejhad. And within seconds after the opening goal, the AZ Alkmaar forward Alireza Jahanbakhsh found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for the Iranians. Unlike the Qatari side, China are on the lookout for all three points in Tuesday’s encounter and Iran’s occasional complacency could cost them here.

China vs Iran: Head-to-Head

It has been almost six years since Iran won the last meeting against China 2-0 at the Zhengzhou Hanghai Stadium on September 2010. That also marked Iran’s third win in four matches against China, while they lost once. All of the last four matches between Iran and China were international friendlies.

China have lost in two of the last three home games against Iran, while they won in one.

The last time China and Iran met in a world cup qualifier was for the 1998 edition. Iran won both legs, 2-0 at home and 4-2 away.

China vs Iran: Prediction

China are coming on the back of two consecutive defeats as they lost an international friendly at home against Kazakhstan before losing the opening game of the qualifier away to South Korea. Also they haven’t done well against stronger Asian sides in recent months, which is also explained by a 1-0 away defeat to Qatar in the second round of qualifiers.

While Iran have extended their unbeaten run to 13 games with the 2-0 win against Qatar last week. Also they have done well in away games and are coming here on the back of a 6 match unbeaten run on the road. With a number of players from European league, they will go in as strong favourites and they could be backed to take all three points from this Asian leg of World Cup qualifying fixture.
