Chile and Jamaica face-off each other at Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar in a friendly match as part of preparations for the upcoming Copa America Centenario.
These two teams haven’t met in an official match yet, but there is plenty at stake of both managers ahead of the big showdown in USA. Chile, under the tutelage of new manager Juan Antonio Pizzi earned their first win against Venezuela in their last match, before suffering back-to-back defeats. The new man in charge has a massive task at hand to take the forward from where Jorge Sampaoli has left. Chile are still ranked third in FIFA rankings and this might well change if they fail to produce results in the Copa America 2016.
Jamaica were the finalists of Gold Cup 2015, but lost 3-1 to Mexico in the penultimate match. They were unbeaten in the tournament till then, a 2-1 win against USA in the semifinals was one of the stand-out results of the tournament. The Reggae Boyz were the invited team for last edition of Copa America in Chile, but lost all three matches by a same 1-0 scoreline. Winfried Schäfer will be hoping on an improved showing the tournament this time and the team have some experienced candidates in the form of Leicester City’s Wes Morgan and Brondby’s Rodolph Austin.
Chile Predicted Line-up (4-2-3-1)
Herrera – Mena, Jara, Medel, Isla – Vidal, Diaz –Silva, Aranguiz, Alexis Sanchez – Vargas.
Jamaica: Predicted Line-up (4-4-2)
Kerr – Lawrence, Hector, Morgan, Mariappa – McAnuff, Watson, Austin, McCleary – Dawkins, Barnes.
Chile vs Jamaica: Head-to-Head
- The teams will be meeting for the first time in an official football match.
- The 4-1 win against Venezuela on 30th March 2016, was Chile’s first win after going win-less in the previous three.
- Chile are without a win in their last two home matches, but were unbeaten in the previous 10.
- Jamaica had won just 2 of their last 8 matches, with 5 of them being defeats.
Chile vs Jamaica: Prediction
Chile will go ahead into this match as clear favourites, but Jamaica are not a team that has to be taken lightly. The Reggae Boyz have shown excellent spirit in the last edition’s Copa America and they will be relaying on their team spirit to upset the odds on Saturday.
But Chile have plenty of talent at their disposal with the likes of Vidal anchoring the midfield and the deadly combination of Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas in the attack. I expect Chile to score 2 or more goals here and win by keeping a clean sheet.
