Chievo vs Roma
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 20 May 2017
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi (Verona).
Fresh off a resounding win over Juventus, Roma will hope to consolidate their grip on second place as they travel to face Chievo on Saturday evening.
The Giallorossi aren’t going to win the Scudetto, but at the very least, they prevented Juventus from winning it at their expense at the Stadio Olimpico. Although they are not going to win any silverware this season, there is still second place, which guarantees an automatic Champions League football spot, up for grabs.
A win on Saturday will temporarily cut the gap on Juventus to just one point. La Vecchia Signora, of course, are expected to take care of business against Crotone on Sunday, but at the very least, it will put some pressure on the reigning Serie A champions. Luciano Spalletti’s side are determined to seal second, and with Napoli hot on their tails, can’t afford to drop points here. Fortunately for them, Chievo appear to already have gone on holiday.
Rolando Maran’s side have one goal each season: to achieve safety. They are not a team built to really compete in Europe and they have recognized that a long time ago. Chievo simply aim to remain in the top flight each season, which normally is achieved once a team accumulates about 40 points. They’ve got 43 and sit in 14th place, so are set to be again featuring in Serie A next term.
As such, they are not expected to cause Roma too much trouble, considering that they have earned just one win out of their last eight fixtures.

Chievo vs Roma: Prediction
Roma’s rampaging attack is expected to have a field day against Chievo’s dodgy defense. The Flying Donkeys shipped four goals against the likes of Cagliari and even Bologna, and with the Giallorossi second in terms of goal output, the visitors should have no problems grabbing a few goals here. They have won their last six road games by a margin of at least two goals and are expected to continue in the same vein of form on Saturday evening.
