It’s Benevento’s last game in Serie A this season and they’ll certainly want to go out with a bang. Can they drag Chievo down whilst they do it this Sunday, or will the Flying Donkeys pick up another much needed win to stay afloat under their new manager?
Le Streghe earned their first away win against AC Milan a while back, but it was too little too late, as they ended up being relegated. Chievo, meanwhile were in some major trouble recently as their complacency finally started to catch up to them, but suddenly sprung to life after firing coach Rolando Maran and now have put a little bit of distance between themselves and Crotone.
They look safe, but will need to have a serious rethink of their approach over the summer as they may not be so lucky next time around. However, the fact that they’re facing Benevento will give them a bit of breathing room. Benevento have lost 16 of their 18 away fixtures, but Chievo will need obviously to pick up all three points as if Crotone manage to beat Napoli and the sides below them also win their games, they could be the ones heading down to Serie B.
It’s a lot of “ifs and buts” but then again, look at what happened to the USMNT during World Cup qualifiers – no one expected them to be the ones watching the upcoming tournament from their sofas, and indeed, the unexpected did happen last fall. So the Flying Donkeys certainly will not be leaving anything to chance, as Benevento come into this game having beaten Genoa recently.

Benevento have struggled on the road, but Chievo would be foolish to take them lightly. After all, this could be their last Serie A game in quite some time and they would certainly love nothing but to cause problems for the Flying Donkeys.
Remember, they did beat AC Milan despite the fact they knew they could be relegated and managed to hold Sassuolo to a draw recently, so they will know Chievo are desperate for a win and could set out to frustrate the hosts.
Given that Benevento did manage to pick off Genoa in their last fixture, they could end up nicking something from Chievo here if the Flying Donkeys aren’t careful.
