Chelsea vs Southampton
England – FA Cup
Date: Sunday, 22 April 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).
Chelsea will try and save the season with the consolation trophy in the FA Cup. They are to play the struggling Southampton side for the place in the final on Sunday afternoon at Wembley. A failure here would definitely mean Conte’s farewell. The Italian manager will likely leave Stamford Bridge regardless of the outcome of these final FA Cup fixtures because the Blues will not play the Champions League football next year, being too far beyond the Spurs in the battle for the top-four finish with just four games left to play in the Premier League.
It has not been any better campaign for Southampton, though. The visitors have much greater woes of their own as they sit deep in the red zone, being four points adrift of safety at the moment. Saving the top flight status is the ultimate goal for the team recently taken by the former Stoke City’s manager Mark Hughes.
Hughes and his men are in for three super important fixtures against AFC Bournemouth, Everton and Swansea City where they need to clinch at least two wins and hope for the best when it comes to their relegation battle.
Chelsea vs Southampton: Head-to-head
The head to head stats entirely speak in Chelsea’s favour.
The Blues won each of last five meetings against Southampton.
The Blues snatched a 2-3 victory at Stadium of Light just a week ago thanks to Olivier Giroud who created the second-half comeback after coming on from the bench.
The Frenchman netted a brace, while Eden Hazard added one himself.
Chelsea vs Southampton: Prediction
The Saints revealed plenty of defensive holes of late. They shipped three goals on four separate occasions in last four Premier League ties. One of these include Chelsea’s visit to Stadium of Light when Conte’s men easily notched three goals in the second half to extend Southampton’s league misery.
The quality is on Chelsea’s side and we just can’t see them falling to the relegation strugglers here, regardless of their slower run of form of late. Still, Conte’s men won each of last two games, including the Thursday’s tough trip to Turf Moor where they ended Burnley’s five-win run. In all, Chelsea to win should be a banker net at the odds of 1.50.
Also, since the Blues bagged five in last two league outings, we will alternatively take them to net two or more goals past the struggling defensive line of Southampton’s here at the 1.61 odds.
