Chelsea vs Norwich City
England – FA Cup
Date: Wednesday, 17 January 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK
Venue: Stamford Bridge (London).
Antonio Conte will be desperate to see his men returning on the winning ways this Wednesday when last term’s finalists are to meet Norwich City in the replay of their third round tie in the FA Cup. The Blues have made it three goalless draws on the bounce on Saturday when they were lucky not to suffer the home defeat to Leicester City.
Such poor spell of form has seen Chelsea drop down to the fourth position in the league. Given they’ll hardly go past Barcelona in the last 16 round of the Champions League and that they’ve also only drawn at home with Arsenal in the first leg of their League Cup tie, a failure here could seriously jeopardize Conte’s job.
To make things worse for the defending Premier League champions, they are up for the clash against the team which has significantly improved defensive displays in the most recent set of fixtures. The Canaries may have struggled with consistency throughout their Championship campaign, but they have only conceded once in last five games in all competitions. The atmosphere in the dressing room is at the highest level after the super important 0-1 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday (a goal from their top scorer James Maddison).
Still, Daniel Farke’s men need a much better attacking display to try and make an upset at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea have kept their net untouched in six of last seven games in all competitions.
Chelsea vs Norwich City: Head-to-head
Norwich City have been a tricky opposition for Chelsea over the history as the Blues only lead the head to head tie by five wins coming into their 39th meeting with the Canaries.
Chelsea did win five and draw two of last seven meetings with Norwich City, though.
Prior to the goalless draw from ten days ago, Chelsea have won both of last two league ties back in the 2015/16 campaign.
Chelsea vs Norwich City: Prediction
Chelsea are massive favourites according to the bookies, but there is just no value in backing the home win at 1.22 after the Blues had played three consecutive goalless draws.
Instead, backing a low-scoring contest is just the way to go, while we’ll also take Chelsea to keep a clean sheet at the odds of 1.72.
