Chelsea vs Manchester City
England – 2018 Community Shield
Date: Sunday, 5 August 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).
Chelsea look for their first silverware under Maurizio Sarri as they meet reigning champions and Premier League centurions Manchester City for their Community Shield clash on Sunday afternoon.
They’ve seen a solid pre-season but had their three-game winning streak ended on penalties by Arsenal on Wednesday, but we have seen Blues very solid at the back and tough to score against.
Manchester City have had a more unpredictable summer with Pep Guardiola missing some of his main stars who have enjoyed knock-out stages in Russia 2018, suffering losses to Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool before beating Bayern (2-3) in a five-goal thriller.
Guardiola will want fitness and many suggest he could be going for youngsters once again, which promises a pumped up side but also spaces to exploit for Chelsea.
Both sides have just four trophies to their name in a competition dominated both recently and overall by Manchester United and Arsenal, where City won their last in 2012 and Chelsea got to theirs in 2009.
While it’s said the fans could be turning their backs to Community Shield recently, we now expect a thriller contest at Wembley – which does come off as more important to the London Blues after a busy summer.

Chelsea vs Manchester City: Head-to-head
- Chelsea haven’t beaten Man City since April 2017, suffering two losses to the Champions last season.
- Citizens have netted just two goals as they bagged narrow wins at Stamford Bridge in September and Emirates in March.
- We’ve seen more thrillers with goals beforehand but should be in for another narrow occasion on the day.
Chelsea vs Manchester City: Prediction
We will now back Chelsea to capitalize on the first-team fitness and most of their players with the side for a longer period of time, going for them to bag a win at Wembley at 3.60 – which does seem overpriced at this point.
Nonetheless, Man City come motivated to show off as Premier League dominants early in the new campaign too and we’ll surely see a very tough challenge.
Chelsea will have to contain the attacking line to secure success, we feel, and we’ll now also go for Under 2.5 goals FT – which comes at 2.07 and has seen many value seekers flock together.
