Chelsea vs Liverpool Match Preview
Chelsea had been matched with Hull in the previous round. The Blues were on the road, and they recorded a rather comfortable 1-2 win to progress to this stage.
As of now, Frank Lampard’s men are chasing a top-four finish in the league, and a strong performance against the potential champions of the league will be a major confidence boost.
In the meantime, Liverpool had defeated Shrewsbury at Anfield the prior round. The scoreline was 1-0, and it was the replay of the first leg – as it had ended in a draw.
The Anfield leg was a bit controversial due to Klopp’s decision to completely let the academy players deal with the match. However, the youngsters did not disappoint, and secured a win for their exhausted seniors.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction
Liverpool lost against Atletico Madrid in their Round of 16 first leg in the UCL, and the last match-day they let go of their unbeaten run in the league – finally bidding goodbye to their wish to emulate Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles.
Suffice it to say that the Reds are red-hot with anger, and will be keen to make a statement to critics as well as haters. By all means, we can expect a determined Liverpool side to line up for the game, and we can count on them to give a monstrous performance.
Chelsea, who have largely been inconsistent this season, will find life tough against the runaway leaders of the Premier League. Keep note that the Blues were winless in six of their last eight overall fixtures, and were so in three of their former four home games.
Going on, expect the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Allison Becker etc to show up with intent too. They had under-performed a bit in the past few match-days, and it has cost them a lot. They will certainly try to make amends for that, and especially with Atleti raring to knock the Reds out from the UCL, it’s important that the Liverpool defense gain confidence back.
As such, expect Jurgen Klopp’s side to progress to the next round, and to deliver a flawless defensive display this Tuesday.
