Chelsea target six new signings to secure Top 4 spot

The smoke of unrest seems slowly settling down at Chelsea and Jose Mourinho has secured his a mini victory in the transfer discussions with the Stamford Bridge board. There is no better time for the Portuguese manager to have achieved this; and the club’s directors admitting that they made mistakes in the summer transfer activities in build up to the season.

Mourinho had held a discussion with the board regarding the transfer issues and has now handed out a list of players he wants to bring in during the winter transfer window to the team. The shortlist also includes six new names he wants to bring in to strengthen each department and also contains the name of players he wants to sell in the window.

Stones and Marquinhos in Defense

The shortlist once again includes Everton defender John Stones as the top target to re-enforce the defense. The young England international has been a subject of rift between the Merseyside club and Chelsea during the summer and this will re-start when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The second name in the list is PSG’s Brazilian defender Marquinhos and the Blues had tried several times to secure his signature in the summer, but PSG rejected every offer. After having featured rarely for the French Champions this season, the player himself is pushing for an exit.

Now, this is two young strong defenders, you can’t fault the manager’s ambitions.

The Strikers – Teixeira and Lacazette

Just like the defense, the attack also needs solid enforcement; Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette make into the manager’s wish list.

The 25-year old Brazilian striker Alex Teixeira has been in prolific form in front of the goal in the Ukraine Premier League this season and has already scored 19 goals in 13 outings.

While, the 2014/15 season’s Ligue1 Player of the year, Alexandre Lacazette has been speculated to a move to Premier League in the previous transfer window, but opted against it by signing a new contract with Lyon which extends to 2019. The 24-year old French striker who scored 27 goals in the league last season will be a definite answer to Chelsea’s woes in front of the goal with the likes of Costa hardly hitting the ground so far this season.

Young Lads in Midfield

And for the midfield, Jose is going for young talents and the two names in the list are Porto’s 18-year old Portuguese holding midfielder Ruben Neves along with the 19-year old Serbian Marko Grujic who plays for Red Star Belgrade.

Falcao and Djilobodji get the axe

So there are six players in and two who will get the axe come as no surprise. Colombian striker Radamel Falcao will see his loan deal cut short, while the new arrival from Nantes, Papy Djilobodji who will exit on a loan deal.

Six Signings to boost Champions League Qualification Chance

Both Mourinho and the board members at Chelsea believes that the new additions will turn around the bad run they are on at the moment. But at the same time, only an extended win streak in the second half of the season will help them to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

This may be a good welcome news for many Chelsea fans who are desperate to see their team back to the glory days under Jose, but is bad news for many of their under-21 players whose chances of breaking into the first-team are getting slimmer.
