Champions League: Who can qualify on Wednesday ?

Champions League Group A to D

UEFA Champions League enter the final round of matches this mid-week and we take a look at the teams in action on Wednesday and their chances of qualifying for a place in the knock out stages of the tournament. On Wednesday, the matches from group A to D are played and some elite names are staring at elimination.

1. GROUP A: Real Madrid, PSG, Malmo, Shakthar

Real Madrid with 13 points will qualify as leaders over PSG who are with 10 points. Since the French have a disadvantage in head to head record, Madrid stays first even if they lose on Wednesday. It is all left to play for Shahtar and Malmo for a place in Europa League, who are currently equal on 3 points. Shakhtar are ahead in head to head with the Malmo.

2. GROUP B : Wolfsburg, Man United; PSV, CSKA

With 9 points Wolfsburg are currently first in the group with Manchester United on 8 points and PSV with 7 points trailing them and CSKA with 4 points are already eliminated from the competition.

Man United should finish the group stage with at least a point more than PSV as the Dutch have a superior head-to-head record against the Red Devils. A win against Wolfsburg will automatically put them in the next round, while a draw against Germans could eliminate them if PSV win against CSKA.

If PSV lose against CSKA, both Wolfsburg and United qualify regardeless of the outcome of the encounter, but the Dutch will be also eliminated from Europa League in favour of the Russians.

3. GROUP C – Benfica, Atletico, Galatasaray, Astana

Both Benfica and Atletico Madrid are on 10 points and the winner in their meeting will top the table. A draw will still see the Portuguese finish as toppers as they won the first leg against 2-1 against the Spaniards at the Calderon.

Galatasaray with 4 points should not lose at home to Astana on 3 points to guarantee a place in the round of sixteen in the Europa League.

4. GROUP D : Juventus, Man City, Gladbach, Sevilla

Juventus (11 points) and Manchester City (9 points) have already booked their places in the next round. The Italian champions just need a draw in Seville to secure the first place. While the Andalusians on 3 points have to win and hope that Gladbach (5) does not beat the City to go to the Europa League.

In case, Juventus and City are locked on equal points, the Bianconeri get the better due to better head-to-head record.
