Celtic vs Rosenborg
UEFA Champions League
Date: Wednesday, 25 July 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Celtic Park, Glasgow.
Celtic started their journey to the Champions League group stage with a comprehensive 6-0 on aggregate win over Armenian champions Alashkert.
Such opposition was obviously no match for the Scottish heavyweights who were in full control in spite of the fact Jozo Simunovic got sent off early on in the first half of the rematch at Celtic Park.
The ten-man side still managed to confirm the dominance by netting two more goals with a man down to set up the third-round meeting with Norwegian giants Rosenborg. The first leg is scheduled for Wednesday evening and the venue will be Celtic Park.
Trillongan had much more troubles sealing their way towards the second round. They were drawn with fellow Scandinavians Valur of Iceland, but went on to lose the first leg 1-0 on the road against all odds. They gained the control in the reverse fixture on the home soil when Anders Trondsen doubled their lead with 20 minutes remaining, but were on the brink of elimination when Kristinn Sigurdsson bagged the late 85th-minute goal to make it 2-1 (2-2 on aggregate).
Nevertheless, the team led by Kare Ingebrigtsen was awarded another penalty in the fourth minute of the added time as Nicklas Bendtner bagged his second goal of the game to send the Norwegian champions through.
Celtic vs Rosenborg: Head-to-head
This will be the fifth head to head encounter between Celtic and Rosenborg.
They played each other in the third qualifying round in the previous term of the Champions League.
The Bhoys went through 0-1 on aggregate back then thanks to a goal from James Forrest in the reverse fixture in Trondheim.
Interestingly, none of past four H2H encounters saw three or more goals or both teams on the scoresheet.
Celtic vs Rosenborg: Prediction
The Hoops head into the tie as massive favourites judging by performances teams showed in the previous round. However, they were struggling badly to open up the scoring in last year’s ties with the Norwegian outfit which should be enough of a warning for Brendan Rodgers and his troops.
The hosts are encouraged by the form of Moussa Dembele who has been fantastic in the second leg of the Alashkert clash. The Frenchman bagged a brace there, he makes a formidable attacking duo together with his countryman Odsonne Edouard and we believe the Bhoys will be able to strike and bag multiple goals here.
Celtic -1.5 handicap looks good at 2.15, while you can alternatively back in-form Moussa Dembele to score anytime at the odds of 1.80.
