Celtic vs Livingston
Scotland 2018/19 Premiership – Match Day 1
Date: Saturday, 4 August 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Celtic Park, Glasgow.
Celtic begin the title defense quest on Saturday when they take on league newcomers Livingston in the Premiership opener at the Celtic Park in Glasgow.
The Lions will thus have the honour of playing the reigning champions to mark their return to the top flight football after spending 12 years in lower divisions.
The hosts are obviously massive favourites ahead of the game. The only question is the margin of their victory against an outfit expected to fight for survival in this term of Premiership.
The match will be special for Livingston’s coach and Rangers’ legend Kenny Miller. The former Rangers striker would be thrilled to cause harm to his fierce rivals here.
Miller can find reasons for optimism in Livingston’s League Cup run which saw the Lions concede only one goal in four matches. They won three in regular time and one on penalties, meaning the knockout stage of the competition has been secured.
Celtic vs Livingston: Head-to-head
- Celtic have a brutal head to head record in matches against the Lions.
- The Bhoys won 17 and drew 1 of 18 head to head games against Livingston.
- The Hoops won all of eight home meetings with the Lions.
- Nevertheless, it’s been a decade since these two sides last locked horns, 4-0 win for Celtic in the League Cup.
Celtic vs Livingston: Prediction
Regardless of Livingston’s decent form in the pre-season, we would be shocked to see anything else than a commanding victory for Celtic here.
Brendan Rodgers can be satisfied with how his men looked in the Champions league qualification campaign. They eased past both Alashkert and Rosenborg conceding only a single goal in four games during the streak.
The Hoops were particularly impressive in the first leg of the Rosenborg tie even though they were without the help of the main striker Moussa Dembele there.
The Frenchman is not available for the Lions tie either, meaning we’ll go with Odsonne Edouard as the top pick for the anytime goalscorer bet.
Dembele’s compatriot notched a brace in the mentioned victory over the Norwegian champions. He is priced at 1.50 to find the back of the net here against massive underdogs.
The alternative bet is Celtic to keep a clean sheet at 1.53 with their defense quite solid in the Champions League games.
Celtic vs Livingston: Bet Tips
Odsonne Edouard to score anytime @ 1.50
Celtic to keep a clean sheet @ 1.53.
