Celta Vigo vs Espanyol
Spain – LaLiga
Date: Thursday, 26 September 2019
Kick off at 19:00 UK / 20:00 CET
Venue: Estadio de Balaídos (Vigo).
Celta Vigo have not been able to find their groove in the new campaign and the 1-0 victory over Valencia in game-week two currently remains as their only taste of success. The hosts managed to hold Atletico Madrid to a stalemate in their most recent trip on the road, prior to which the squad were at the losing end of a 2-0 scoreline against Granada at home.
Espanyol have been struggling as well, and are just a point behind Celta Vigo in the table at the moment. The visitors have just one win to boast of from their last five games and have gone on to admit defeat in three of those clashes.
However, the away side are so far unbeaten in their trips on the road. Given that they also managed to come out on top in their last La Liga outing, it certainly looks like Celta Vigo have their work cut out for them this week.
Celta Vigo vs Espanyol Head to head (h2h)
- Five of their previous eight clashes have ended in a tie.
- Their last encounter here saw them play out a 1-1 draw.
- Both teams have found the back of the net in their past five games in a row.
- Half of their last six fixtures have been high scoring ones with over 2.5 goals on the charts.
Celta Vigo vs Espanyol Prediction
First and foremost, Fran Escriba’s men have already lost by a two-goal margin or more in two of their last three home games. To make matters worse, they are up against an opposition who have not been at the losing end in any of their last five outings in all competitions.
Despite it all, it needs saying that Espanyol have not registered a win at this venue in any of their previous nine visits. Considering that their last three clashes here also ended in a draw, it is too soon to call a winner in this one.
What is certain nevertheless is that there will be goals down each end. Escriba’s men have found the back of the net in two of their last three games here while Espanyol scored two in their previous outing alone.
Taking into account that five of their last six head to head fixtures here have seen both teams get their names on the scoresheet as well, expect neither side to walk away with a clean sheet on Thursday.
Additionally, at least one team has scored in the opening forty-five minutes, in each of their last five meetings here. Given that one of the two goals that Celta Vigo have netted so far have also come before the break, wait no sooner than the first half for the deadlock to be broken.
