Carlisle United vs Stockport County
English League Two
Date: 28 May 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 13:30 UK / 14:30 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).
Carlisle and Stockport County will play the biggest game of the season on Sunday afternoon when they lock horns in the battle for the final remaining League One place at legendary Wembley Stadium.
Both outfits have booked tickets for the famous game after a late extra-time/penalties drama in their respective semifinal affairs.
Stockport’s loanee Ben Barclay sent Carlisle into the final by scoring the decisive goal late in the extra-time of the second leg against Bradford City.
The center-back is not eligible to feature the final as a Stockport player. The good news for the Blues’ manager Paul Simpson, though, is the return of suspended John Mellish. Morgan Feeney is also back in training and could feature on Sunday.
The problem is that the team’s top scorer Kristian Dennis is questionable after hurting his shin just before the second leg of the Bradford tie.
Stockport County also have big problems with injuries as their top scorer Kyle Wotton has missed the team’s last six outings and the playoffs final will likely come too soon for him.
Head coach Dave Challinor can be mainly satisfied with his team’s recent defensive showings because the Hatters have only allowed three goals in the last five league matches.
