Cagliari vs Bologna
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 29 January 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Sant’Elia (Cagliari).
It will be an “all-Rossoblu” derby as Cagliari take on Bologna at the Stadio Sant’Elia on Sunday afternoon.
The two teams don’t just share a common nickname, but largely have experienced the same kind of season. Coming into this fixture, Cagliari and Bologna are tied on 26 points, but Sunday’s visitors sit ahead of their upcoming hosts due to their vastly superior goal difference. That should not surprise anyone, however. Although Bologna have not been impressive, Cagliari have the worst defense so far in the league. They have shipped a whopping 45 goals, but have scored 31, which means they have been involved in some pretty entertaining games this term.
Bologna have picked up two road fixtures recently, but whilst six points are dearly needed for Roberto Donadoni’s side, those results were against Crotone and Pescara, which is not exactly impressive. A glance at the table will reveal why: the Squali and the Delfini are floundering – not swimming – this year and are looking set to be two of the teams heading back to Serie B at the conclusion of this campaign.
Bologna arrive having earned a 2-0 win over Torino, but that was at home. They are still struggling to pick up points on the road. Meanwhile, Cagliari suffered a 1-0 road defeat to Roma, but considering their leaky defense, it was not the hammering many had expected to see the Sardinians suffer at the Stadio Olimpico.
Cagliari have been quite strong at home. In fact, the overwhelming majority of the 26 points earned has come from picking up good results on their home turf. However, Bologna, despite their bad road form, have won their past four meetings with Cagliari. Will the Sardinians be able to turn the tide this Sunday?

Cagliari vs Bologna: Prediction
Although Bologna have won their past four meetings with Cagliari, the Sardinians have been quite strong at home. They have managed to win four out of their last five on home turf, including high-scoring wins over Genoa (4-1) and Sassuolo (4-3). Meanwhile, Bologna may have won on the road recently, but that was against Pescara and Crotone.
Pitted against Inter and Juventus, they were unable to come out on top, and Cagliari’s high-scoring side should be able to take care of business and end their bad run against Bologna this Sunday. However, a win could be tough, as Bologna appear to be steadily growing in confidence
