Wigan Athletic have successfully recovered from the FA Cup elimination by beating Walsall 0-3 on the road on Wednesday evening. The victory has helped the Latics narrow the gap to only a single point behind the second-placed Shrewsbury Town. Paul Cook’s men now thus once again have the pole position in the promotional contest given they have two games in hand on both Shrewsbury Town and Blackburn Rovers at the top of the standings.
Next up for the Tics are rock-bottomed Bury, meaning that the visitors will have a nice chance to make it three wins on the bounce in the league on Saturday when they visit Gigg Lane. The Shakers have been struggling badly throughout the entire season and the fourth tier is their reality at this stage. Ryan Lowe took charge of the team this January, but he has failed to shift Bury’s fortunes around ever since and the hosts will come into this game ten points shy of the safe zone spots.
Bury have lost last two league outings to Peterborough United and Milton Keynes Dons netting just once in the process and we see them having huge troubles with the creativity in the final third past the league’s best defensive line on Saturday.
Wigan Athletic have been brutal towards Bury in last two H2H ties, winning both by three goals margin.
Overall, each of last five head to head ties saw three or more goals.
The Latics have won 7 and lost 6 of 17 clashes with the Shakers so far.
Wigan are massive favourites and we’d be surprised to witness anything else but a convincing away win on Saturday at Gigg Lane.
Given that the visitors have kept their net untouched in last two league outings, we will alternatively back them to keep a clean sheet here at 2.10 odds.
