Burton Albion vs Derby County
England – League Championship
Date: Friday, 26 August 2016,
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK
Venue: Pirelli Stadium (Burton-upon-Trent).
Burton and Derby look to bring some momentum into their season campaigns when they face-off at the Pirelli Stadium on Friday night’s Championship fixture.
Burton Albion are coming on the back of a 5-0 thrashing from the hands of Liverpool in their mid-week League Cup fixture. A win in a fixture against a Premier League side was never on the cards, but a respectable final score-line would have worked magic on their confidence.
The Brewers are currently 16th in the league table after starting their season campaign with back-to-back defeats to Nottingham Forest and Bristol City. An unexpected 3-1 win against a strong Sheffield Wednesday earned them their first win of the season, which was followed with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
Derby County started their season in some unconvincing fashion and are currently 18th in the standings. The play-off hopefuls have managed just one goal from four Championship meetings so far. They also kept three clean sheets during the period, but they must start winning some matches if they are to achieve their season ambitions.
The Rams were engaged in a marathon penalty shoot out in the mid-week’s league cup fixture against Carlisle United. It took 32 penalty kicks for Derby to eventually decide the winner. Five spot kicks didn’t reach the target and Derby won 14-13 after the scores were level at 1-1 after extra time.
Burton vs Derby: Head-to-Head Statistics
All of the last six meeting between these two sides were in friendly matches and Derby had won in all of them.
Their latest meeting was on August 2015, which ended 3-1 in favour of the Rams with Darren Bent, Andreas Weimann and Johnny Russell finding the back of the net.
Burton vs Derby: Prediction
Derby’s recent woes in recent weeks is mainly due to their inability to convert chances. They scored just 1 goal in 4 league matches and that too came from a defender Craig Forsyth. With both Chris Martin and Darren Bent misfiring, I do believe that Nigel Pearson has some real problems going against an unpredictable opponent like Burton.
This could have been a straight forward pick considering the bay in quality between the two sides. But Burton carry a surprise element with them which was evident in the 3-1 home win against Sheffield a fortnight ago. Set at the Pirelli stadium once again they will fancy their chances against an under-performing Derby County.
Derby have conceded in 80% of their last 15 away games and from last 15, while Burton have scored in each of the four league matches this season. This makes both teams to score a strong bet for this Friday’s Championship tie.
Burton vs Derby: Tips
- Both Teams to Score at 1.90.
- Burton – Draw no bet at 2.37.
