Burnley vs West Ham
English Premier League
Date: Monday, 3 May 2021
Kick-Off at 20.15 UK
Venue: Turf Moor, Burnley.
Although the look at the Premier League standings should reveal the opposite, it’s Burnley who will come into the last game of the Matchday No 34 in higher spirits than West Ham.
The Clarets pulled off their by far the best showing of the entire campaign eight days ago when they demolished Wolves 0-4 away at Molineux Stadium.
Chris Wood stole the show by completing a hat-trick and setting up Westwood’s fourth goal on the occasion.
It was a very important win for Sean Dyche’s troops as it came after three consecutive defeats in the competition.
More importantly, Clarets made a decisive step in the battle for avoiding the relegation scrap, escaping on a nine-point distance from the danger area.
West Ham, on the other side, suffered back-to-back losses in the last two rounds.
While there is not much to say about the loss to Chelsea in the previous round, the 3-2 defeat to bottom-half Newcastle at St. James’ Park did truly hurt the Hammers’ ambitions of making the top-four at the end of the season.
Burnley vs West Ham Head-to-head
- West Ham United do lead the head to head tie by seven wins, but they lost three of the last four clashes against Clarets.
- The Hammers, however, managed to pull off a narrow 1-0 victory when they took on Burnley in the first part of the season in London.
- Interestingly, none of the last four head to head games saw goals scored at both ends.
- West Ham managed to win just 6 of 33 clashes against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Burnley vs West Ham Prediction
David Moyes’ troops need a victory here to stay in touch with Chelsea in the battle for a top-four finish. However, their decent defensive showings, combined with Chris Wood’s thrilling form, do not look promising for the Hammers at all.
West Ham failed to keep a clean sheet in six successive Premier League outings. They have allowed two or more goals in four of the last five matches in the process.
Burnley have not been the best defensive team this season either. The clean sheet against Wolves was their first after seven consecutive matches in which they shipped at least one goal.
Backing goals at both ends thus has to be the way to go here. The second bet is red-hot Chris Wood to score anytime at the odd of 2.60.
