Burnley vs Southampton
England – Premier League
Date: Saturday, 24 February 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK
Venue: Turf Moor (Burnley).
Southampton have grabbed themselves a massive survival lifeline when they clinched a comeback 2-3 win away at West Bromwich Albion in the direct relegation battle at The Hawthorns. They couldn’t, however, capitalize on it to the max falling 0-2 at home to Liverpool in the previous round, but the clash with the out-of-form Burnley side should give them an opportunity to get some precious points on board and once again escape the danger zone.
Mauricio Pellgrino’s men have again confirmed quality over the Baggies when they eliminated WBA from the FA Cup with a 1-2 win at The Hawthorns last weekend. Goals came from Wesley Hoedt and Dusan Tadic, while the most recent acquisition Guido Carillo had a decent showing setting up Tadic’s second goal in the match.
The visitors are still without Charlie Austin, but the Argentine manager has plenty of potential options in the final third, particularly now with the arrival of the former Monaco’s forward Carillo. His colleague on the opposite side, Sean Dyche, has much greater issues with sidelined players. The English expert can’t count on services of eight players ahead of the clash (including the likes of Chris Wood, Robbie Brady, Steven Defour, Philip Bardsley and Dewan Marney). These troubles have significantly affected Burnley’s attacking performances of late and the hosts will come into this match of the back of 11 consecutive matches without a win across competitions. Additionally, Clarets have bagged just two goals in last five league matches.
