Burnley vs Everton
English Premier League
Date: Wednesday, 26 December 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Turf Moor (Burnley).
Both Burnley and Everton are struggling badly coming into their Boxing Day clash at Turf Moor. The hosts lost eight of past ten league games, a streak which saw them slide down into the drop zone at the halfway point of the season. They lost back-to-back fixtures to North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal in past two weeks.
Nevertheless, Sean Dyche can at least be satisfied with team’s improved defensive displays in recent matches.
Clarets kept their net untouched in a 1-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion three weeks ago. They then held it out to a goalless draw all up until the 90th-minute of the game against Spurs at Wembley. Eriksen, however, found the net to win it for Mauricio Pochettino’s side on the occasion.
The weekend saw Burnley lose 3-1 to Arsenal at Emirates, but they were also just one goal down before the stoppage-time when substitute Alex Iwobi made it 3-1 for the Gunners on Saturday. Can Clarets keep things tight at the back against Everton here?
Burnley vs Everton: Head-to-head
Burnley surprisingly earned a domestic double over Everton last season in the Premier League (1-0 and 2-1 wins).
They won three of last four encounters with the Toffees.
Clarets have also been the more successful side in the history of H2H games with Everton at Turf Moor (17 wins, 11 draws and 13 defeats).
Burnley vs Everton: Prediction
Everton also ran into a series of defeats caused by a well congested schedule which saw them play the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in last two rounds. They conceded 9 goals in back-to-back losses, including as many as six on Sunday evening t Goodison against Spurs.
The Toffees previously drew 2-2 to Watford at home making it 11 shipped goals in last three rounds. It’s as many as they have allowed in previous 11 outings in the league.
We can expect Marco Silva to bring Yerry Mina back to the starting line-up at the center-back. Nevertheless, it’s really hard to imagine the visitors keeping their net untouched here following such horrendous set of defensive showings.
Given Burnley also won there of past four H2H matches with Everton, the value is clearly with Clarets not to lose at the odds of 1.83. You can also back BTTS bet at 1.80.
