Bulgaria vs Hungary
Date: Thursday, 8 October 2020
Kick-Off at 19.45 UK
Venue: Stadion Vasil Levski, Sofia.
Bulgarian and Hungarian football fans are still hoping to see their team grab one of few remaining spots for EURO 2021.
One team will lose those chances on Thursday night at Vasil Levski Stadium in Path A semi-finals and advance to the final stage.
Bulgaria have been very inconsistent in the last couple of years, having much more defeats in big games than successful results. It’s also been a while since they appeared on some big competition, which can’t be said for their opponents.
Hungary were looking great in the previous EURO – it’s hard to forget their duel against Portugal which ended 3-3 FT.
Bulgaria vs Hungary Head-to-head
There were eleven head to head clashes between these teams in the past. Stats are going in favour of visitors; Hungary were victorious in seven occasions, while losing only two matches. Their win rate on Bulgarian soil is only 50% though.
The most recent duel was in 2012 – a friendly match in Budapest which ended without a winner 1-1 FT.
Four out of the last five meetings ended with low number of goals, Under 2.5 FT.
Bulgaria vs Hungary Prediction
Bulgaria have started the brand new UEFA Nations League campaign in a solid manner. They had a lead at home against Republic of Ireland thanks to the goal of Bozhidar Kraev, but back line couldn’t hold and conceded a late goal (93rd minute) so match ended without a winner. It looked like that crashed the confidence, resulting in bad performance and a loss to Wales 0-1 a couple of days later. This squad has very small chance to win Path A spot for EURO in our opinion.
Hungary defeated some big names in the previous EURO qualifying campaign like Croatia and Wales, but lacked consistency in that group. Their NL campaign started with a win against Turkey on the road, followed by 2-3 loss at home to Russia. They definitely seem like a better candidate to take the win here.
