Bristol Rovers vs Doncaster Rovers: Prediction
The Rovers’ FA Trophy journey comes to an end at the Third-Round stage with Wednesday’s 0-1 defeat at the Mem to League Two Stevenage.
Following a disastrous Boxing Day performances and early FA Trophy exit, The Pirates are looking to get back on feet and keep up with play offs race. They’re 8th at the moment, tied on points with Peterborough and are yet to play postponed match v ill-fated Southend.
Bristol Rovers did actually fairly well at their turf, getting twenty points from twelve games, losing only to unsuspecting opposition like Bolton and AFC Wimbledon. Ben Garner’s still fresh on the job, shaping the team in his image and that transitional clunkiness shows as he’s yet to record a win.
It was a professional performance from the home side as Niall Ennis and Tom Anderson ensured Doncaster closed the gap to the play-offs with Tuesday’s huge victory over Shrewsbury Town.
Donny did rather well during the holidays, as their form hit an uprising, bringing them up to 11th place at League One table, on the brinks of play offs with two points off and two games in hand over Peterborough.
Darren Moore’s side played only eight fixtures away due mostly to scheduling conflicts, winning two and drawing three. Donny’s win percentage isn’t anything to write home about but that doesn’t exactly paint a fair picture since almost all of those games were played against top six sides.
Tough one, this one is… Everything I’ve read so far suggest that smart money is on Doncaster. They’ve hit it up lately, their form is on the rise and Rovers usually show up for these clashes. Add an inexperienced manager of the Pirates, still stumbling with his selection into the mix and writings on the wall…
If you’re after something safer, I’d go for Under 3 goals. Both these sides very rarely went over it and when they did, it was against lowly opposition, like Southend.
