Venue: Ashton Gate (Bristol).
Bristol City opens up the domestic season with a clash against familiar opponents like Nottingham Forest. Both sides will be hoping to get a better season than last year and would like to start strong in first round.
Bristol had an interesting season. They were the main competition to champions Wolves all the way until the New Year ’s Eve. They played well, reached very far in the Carabao Cup and the team was looking well overall.
All well until 30th of December. The team faced leaders Wolves at home hoping to win and narrow the gap. They lost 1-2 with a complete turnaround in the most dramatic of manner and that probably turned their season upside down. This defeat was followed by series of bad results which eventually excluded the team from the play-offs.
Nottingham had a better season than then previous campaign but it still wasn’t good enough. The team started decently well but later struggled to continue the trend. Managerial swap also didn’t prove that much of an improvement and the team eventually settled for a second half finish.
The team though showed some promise in the pre-season. Decent play and some nice victories leave the fans with optimism. Victories over Malaga, Scunthorpe and Premier League side Bournemouth are all welcomed results which show some promise.
