Brighton vs Southampton
English Premier League
Date: 21 May 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: The American Express Community Stadium (Falmer).
Southampton have become the first team to officially lose the top-flight status last weekend when they fell 0-2 at home to Fulham.
It was the fourth consecutive league loss for the Saints who are eight points adrift of the safe zone with just two games left to play.
Spanish manager Ruben Selles has failed to fix the obvious defensive holes in this Southampton team as they have been particularly easy to break down in the last couple of decisive weeks.
The Saints shipped at least three goals in three of the last five league outings. They have allowed three or more goals in each of the previous three away matches in the Premier League.
The streak involves a 4-3 defeat at the hands of direct relegation rivals Nottingham Forest in the previous away outing.
Southampton will now visit The American Express Community Stadium in Falmer where they will face one of the deadliest attacking lines in the competition, a recipe for disaster.
Brighton have shown a fabulous all-round effort seven days ago in the 0-3 drubbing of second-placed Arsenal to break into the top-six in the Premier League ladder.
The only problem for Roberto De Zerbi is his team’s congested schedule as the Seagulls had a tough game against Newcastle just three days ago at St. James’ Park and they also need to face new champions Manchester City on Wednesday.
Brighton vs Southampton Head-to-head
- Southampton have been more successful historically but they are winless in four straight clashes with Brighton who have won two in the process.
- The Seagulls picked up a 1-3 road victory over the Saints in the return match played on Boxing Day at St. Mary’s Stadium.
- Both teams were on target in six subsequent head to head outings.
Brighton vs Southampton Prediction
Roberto De Zerbi will likely hand a rest to some of his starters here, much like he did in the recent home clash against Wolves. We all know what happened there as the likes of Deniz Undav, Danny Welbeck, Julio Enciso, and Facundo Buonanotte created a huge 6-0 victory for the Seagulls.
We would not be surprised to see a demolition job on Sunday at The AMEX. We’ll take the 2.37 odds for Brighton to win both halves while the Seagulls are also worth backing to win the first half by two or more goals difference at the odds of 3.30.
