Brighton vs Chelsea
English Premier League
Date: Sunday, 16 December 2018
Kick-Off at 13:30 UK / 14:30 CET
Venue: The American Express Community Stadium (Brighton).
Chelsea rebounded from a disappointing 2-1 loss to Wolves at Molineux and they did it in some style. The Blues saw off unbeaten Manchester City side 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to drop Pep Guardiola and company down to second place in the Premier League ladder. They also made the championship more interesting allowing Spurs to narrow the gap behind new leaders Liverpool to six, while the Blues themselves are just eight points shy of Jurgen Klopp’s troops at the moment.
The team led by Maurizio Sarri will have a nice chance to back up the huge victory over defending champions on Sunday afternoon when they travel to THE AMEX to take on Brighton & Hove Albion. It’s a very much winnable affair for Chelsea, but they will surely need to work hard to grab the spoils on the occasion.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Head-to-head
The Seagulls did not prove out to be a tricky opposition for Chelsea in the previous term of the Premier League.
The Blues easily earned the domestic double over Brighton beating them 2-0 and 4-0 last season.
This will only be teams’ third official head to head contest.
Brighton did pick up a 3-1 victory when they faced Chelsea in a pre-season friendly in the summer of 2012.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Prediction
Chris Hughton’s men dropped down into the bottom half of the standings after falling 1-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor. It was Clarets’ first win in two months which only shows Brighton’s underwhelming efforts in the affair.
Nevertheless, the Seagulls can be a tough nut to crack in their own backyard where they have a fine record in this term of the Premier League. Brighton won 4, drew 2 and lost just 1 of 7 home outings so far in the season. They won three and drew one of last four home outings in the league, but we must mention the opposition included the likes of West Ham, Wolves, Leicester and Crystal Palace in the process.
Chelsea are still heavy favourites coming into the game, but we’ll be honest and say it’s hard to find the value in backing the away win at 1.44 knowing about Brighton’s home form. Chelsea kept their net untouched against City and backing Kepa to keep another clean sheet looks like a much better betting option at 1.90.
