Bourg-en-Bresse Peronnas vs Grenoble Foot 38
French Ligue 2 Play-offs Second Leg
Date: Sunday, 27 May 2018
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stade Marcel-Verchere, Bourg-en-Bresse.
Grenoble are just 90 minutes away from making their way to the second tier football. They travel to Bourn-en-Bresse with a narrow advantage from the first leg thanks to substitute striker Nicolas Belvito who made the difference netting the match-winner seven minutes from time. The goal gets on the significance if we know that Bourg had an extra man after Arsene Elogo was sent off for SCG midway through the second half.
Overall, the team led by Olivier Guegan showed both the quality and the mental strength to beat their rivals in almost every parameter on Tuesday. The tie is obviously still wide open since a 1-0 win saves Bourg in Ligue 2, but that’s rather unrealistic scenario given that the hosts have been very easy to break down of late and we just can’t imagine them keeping things tight at the back here.
This will only be the second head to head encounter between these two rivals. As described above, Grenoble came on top when they met five days ago at Stade des Alpes. Florian Sotoca opened the scoring for FCG in the very first minute of the game, but Julien Begue made it all square for Bourg juts before the break.
Wide man Arsene Elogo then stole the show failing to convert the penalty for the hosts before getting sent off 20 minutes from time, but Grenoble managed to snatch a massive win eventually with a goal from the substitute Nicolas Belvito.
Bourg’s defense has been non-existent over the last couple of months. Herve Della Maggiore’s men conceded at least two goals in seven of last nine games in Ligue 2 (including the first leg of the relegation play-offs) and we just can’t see the hosts stopping the likes of Florian Sotoca and Nicolas Belvito in the reverse fixture.
Grenoble can be very dangerous with this duo in the final third. A goal from the visitors would open up the game entirely, meaning we just have to take the 2.10 odds offered for three or more goals to be seen in the game.
As for the outcome, the value goes out to the visitors who are 3.10 to snatch the victory in the rematch as well. The host need to risk a bit more in their own backyard which should open up the space for the visitors to strike.
