Borussia Monchengladbach vs FC Koln
German Bundesliga – 2017/18 Season
Date: Sunday, 20th August 2017
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Borussia-Park, Monchengladbach.
In the last match of Round 1, Borussia Monchengladbach will square off with FC Koln at Borussia-Park.
BMG are expected to get back to the top of German football after the underwhelming season. However, their preseason doesn’t indicate success for the team from Borussia-Park. They conceded against every stronger team they faced, and they only managed to beat Malaga. In the first round of DFB Pokal, Monchengladbach struggled against Regionalliga side RW Essen.
However, BMG acquired several players that will be the excellent additions to the team. Matthias Ginter joined from BVB, Joel Richter from Mainz 05, Bobadilla returned from Augsburg, and Vincenzo Grifo transferred from Freiburg as one of the best signings this season. The Italian winger was one of the crucial players that created Freiburg’s success in the previous campaign.
The Billy Goats enjoyed the previous campaign in which they secured the fifth position and the automatic UEFA Europa League participation. However, it will be very difficult to repeat the success as they will fight in three competitions this season, and their squad depth could be a problem. Also, undeniably their best player Anthony Modeste moved to China.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs FC Koln: Head-to-head
Both sides grabbed three away points in the last season’s meetings between BMG and Koln. In the last five games at Borussia-Park, Monchengladbach was secure against FC Koln with 4 consecutive victories, but the last season’s defeat spoiled their record.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs FC Koln: Prediction
Both sides had endured massive changes during the transfer window, so they will need some time for adaptations, particularly FC Koln who heavily relied on Modeste. The Billy Goats must play more as team which needs time, so BMG have a slight advantage here.
