Bolton vs Derby County
2017/18 EFL Championship
Date: Saturday, 19th August 2017
Kick off at 15:00 UK/16:00 CET
Venue: Macron Stadium.
Derby County travels to Macron Stadium to face Bolton this Saturday. Both teams would have like to have some more points so far and will be interesting to see which side gets them.
Bolton were involved in probably the most boring game to watch in the midweek fixture. The team played Birmingham and both teams looked like they could go another 90minutes without finding the net.
Derby weren’t the most exciting side either. The team got a minimal 1-0 victory over Preston with a penalty scored by Vydra.
Form and Tactical Analysis
Bolton so far have seen the two extremes. The made a very entertaining game against Leeds with lots of chances and goals. They drew away against their rivals from last season Millwall and went to a goalless draw.
Bolton plays strict 5-3-2 formation trying to limit the space for the opposition. Felipe Morais and Taylor are operating in the wingback positions with Felipe definitely being the more attacking minded. Up front they usually play with a strong target man and pacey Armstrong around him.
The Rams so far have 4 points in their tally. The good new are that all 3 games were against strong opponents and the team played decently in all of them. Now they have the chance to try their game against one of the lower teams in the league.
The team so far played mostly with a 4-3-3 formation with Huddlestone as holding midfielder and Chris Martin leading the line. Against Preston though the team went to play in an aggressive 4-4-2 formation with Nugent and Vydra operating up front.
Bolton vs Derby County: Head to head
- Draw is the most common result here. 5 draws with 2 victories for Bolton and 3 for Derby.
- Derby are undefeated in the last 7 games against Bolton.
- Derby have won 3 of the last 4 games.
- 7 out of 10 games produced less than 2.5 goals.
Bolton vs Derby County: Prediction
Bolton’s defensive problems were evident against Leeds. When the back 5 gets caught out of position or gets stretched on the wings the team looks vulnerable. Derby are not exactly the paciest of sides but and may struggle to break through. Low scoring affair looks most likely.
Derby are still the better side in terms of quality and they have plenty more experience on this level than their opponents. That’s experience may prove crucial and makes the Rams slight favourites here.
