Bolton Wanderers vs Leeds United
England – The Championship
Date: Sunday, 6th August 2017
Kick off at 16:30 UK/17:30 CET
Venue: Macron Stadium.
The last game of the opening Championship round features newly promoted Bolton hosting Leeds United. United failed their promotion bid in the end of last season and are unlikely to give a warm welcome to the newcomers.
Bolton went to hell and back in recent years. The team was very trouble financially, got a transfer ban and sometimes the ownership talks seem to go on forever. Still after the relegation from The Championship and the removal of manager Neil Lennon the team managed to bounce back from all those difficulties and climb to the second tier of English football just after 1 season in League 1. Bolton finished 2nd last year which gave them an automatic promotion.
Manager Phil Parkinson has done wonders considering the resources he has at his disposal. The team had the best and most stable defensive line in the league. Wanderers conceded just 35 goals in their 46 games 7 goals less than the next best defensive line. The team went through a lot of changes during the summer. There were 11 outgoing transfers with 10 incoming. That’s almost a complete overhaul of the squad. The new players will have to blend in as fast as they can otherwise the team may get a rough welcoming to The Championship in the upcoming weeks.
Leeds stayed amongst the top 6 teams through most of the season. The team fell short in the end though as they got just a single victory out of their last 8 games of the season. Gary Monk did a very good job last year but the manager was tempted by Middlesbrough and left in the summer.
United stirred a bit of surprise with the appointment of Thomas Christiansen. The manager inherited a good squad with the core being intact. The team’s main goal scorer Chris Wood is still at the team despite being linked with an outgoing transfer. Not only Leeds kept their squad intact but as the looks of things they improved on it.
Swedish defender Pontus Jansson joined the squad to boost the already outstanding defensive line. Vernon Anita from Newcastle and Mateusz Klich from Twente joined the midfield while Hadi Sacko from Portuguese side Sporting Samu Saiz from Huesca are the new additions up front. Leeds looked good last season and with the new addition they will be hoping for a better finish this year.

Bolton Wanderers vs Leeds United: Prediction
Both teams last year relied on their defensive lines and it will be likely for both teams to start the game with caution. A low scoring affair looks likely on the cards.
Leeds have to be the favourites here. The team kept their core and added some more depth to it while Bolton are trying to hold things together with free transfers which may not fill the gap between League 1 and The Championship. Bolton may get a hard reality check in this game.
