Bologna vs SPAL
2017/18 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 15 October 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (Bologna).
Bologna have had a solid start to the season and thus find themselves in the top half of the table. The Rossoblu are unbeaten in their last four, including two straight wins and have a great chance to make it three on the spin as they take on newly promoted SPAL on Sunday afternoon.
However, SPAL will be desperate for points. They’re going to be involved in the relegation battle and will again dig in their heels to grind out a draw, as they successfully managed to do against Lazio in their sole away point to date. They come into this game having earned a 1-1 draw with Crotone to end a four game losing streak in a game that naturally they had hoped for all three points, but the Squali were equally as desperate for points as they were.
SPAL have only managed to score more than one goal once so far, and that was against Napoli. That certainly wasn’t their plan, but they were forced out of their shell after the Partenopei equalized and then overturned their lead. So, it goes without saying that once one can find a way past their “parked bus”, one is guaranteed to get a result.
Bologna have added some solid players, including veteran striker Rodrigo Palacio, and earned a very impressive 1-1 home win with Inter to end the Nerazzurri’s perfect winning run. They also earned two well-earned 1-0 wins over Sassuolo and Genoa to further improve their standings and should be able to make it three wins in three on Sunday.

Bologna vs SPAL: Prediction
SPAL will again try to park the bus and frustrate their opponents, there’s no doubt about that. That’s going to be their game plan for this season as they need 40 points to avoid the drop. Sometimes it will pay off, especially against smaller sides, and sometimes they can manage to actually hold bigger teams to a draw, like they surprisingly managed to do to Lazio. Patience will be the order of the day for Bologna, but if the Rossoblu can break down the ten men their opponents will park behind the ball, they will definitely come out on top in this one.
