Bologna vs SPAL
2018/19 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 19 August 2018
Kick-Off: 19:30 UK,
Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (Bologna).
Bologna now have a new man on the bench, and they will be hoping it will bring them better fortunes as they prepare to take on SPAL in their season opener on Sunday.
It’s a derby clash of sorts as the Rossoblu, who are now led by none other than legendary striker Pippo Inzghi face a SPAL side who managed to cling on to avoid the drop.
Leonardo Semplici’s side pulled off some solid results, including a strong defensive performance to hold Juventus to a scoreless stalemate in order to ensure survival for the minnows and now in their second season, will be aiming to finish higher in the table.
A European spot is probably too high for SPAL at this point in the team’s development. But then again, Sassuolo, a team who only achieved promotion in 2013, managed to force their way into the Europa League by finish in an impressive sixth in 2016 under Eusebio Di Francesco’s tenure, so SPAL just may look to that as a blueprint. As for Bologna, the arrival of Inzaghi has fans hopeful.
That’s despite selling key player Simone Verdi to Napoli and Mattia Destro being less than reliable. In fact, Destro has largely been pushed aside in favor of 36-year-old Rodrigo Palacio to spearhead the attack, and Inzaghi will attempt to usher in a new, exciting brand of attacking football in lieu of Roberto Donadoni’s more pragmatic, cautious approach that did not always pan out well for the Rossoblu.
As to whether it’ll pay off remains to be seen, but Bologna will be hoping to make a big splash in Serie A this season.

Bologna vs SPAL: Prediction
SPAL impressively managed to avoid the drop and will be hoping to pull off the same kind of result this time around.
Hope is high in the Bologna camp with the arrival of Pippo Inzaghi, and they are taking on a side who based their standing off their home record.
SPAL struggled away from home, losing ten and winning just three times and given that this is a derby of sorts.
Bologna will be even more pumped up to put on a great show for their home fans and get three points on the board.
