Bologna vs Sassuolo
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 23 October 2016
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (Bologna).
Bologna will look to take advantage of Sassuolo’s indifferent away form when they welcome the Neroverdi to their home ground this Sunday.
The Rossoblu conceded a late spot-kick against Lazio that prevented them from leaving the Stadio Olimpico with all three points in hand. That result sees them sitting in 12th spot, but they are just one point behind Sassuolo. In fact, so congested are things in the table that a win could see them move into the top half, whilst a loss could move them uncomfortably closer to the bottom four sides. Bologna have been quite unlucky when it comes to injuries, and again will not have a full squad for this match. Key striker Mattia Destro has struggled to stay injury-free, and other absentees include Antonio Mirante and Daniele Gastaldello (due to suspension).
Meanwhile, Sassuolo appear to be struggling with playing on two fronts this term. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side have arguably been one of the biggest revelation since breaking into the top flight in 2013. As reward for their great performances last season, they are featuring in the Europa League for the first time. However, some are starting to wonder if the absence of key man Domenico Berardi is starting to catch up with them.
The Neroverdi presently sit in tenth, and come into this game having snatched two quick goals to defeat Crotone in their last league game. Still, they are being frustrated when away from home. Their last away victory was a narrow 1-0 result over strugglers Palermo. That was way back in August. Will they be able to end a two match wait for a road victory against Bologna this Sunday?

Bologna vs Sassuolo: Prediction
Both sides come into this game having experienced some frustration and disappointment. Sassuolo’s away woes continue as they ended up drawing Rapid Wein – and that was thanks to the Austrians scoring an embarrassing own goal. How Di Francesco manages his team after their trip to Austria will also prove vital. It also could be an interesting family reunion as Sassuolo’s coach encounters his son, Federico, who plies his trade as a striker for Bologna.
Still, despite Sassuolo’s struggles on the road, one cannot discount the fact that the Rossoblu haven’t scored, let alone won this fixture on their home turf. The hosts surely will put up a good challenge, but Sassuolo should have just enough to see this one through.
