Bologna vs Fiorentina
Italian Serie A
Date: Sunday, 4th February 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (Bologna).
Both Bologna and Fiorentina will be eager to recover from their respective recent defeats as they lock horns at the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara this Sunday.
One point and one place divide the Rossoblu and the Viola, who sit in 12th and 11th heading into this fixture. Whilst neither are in danger of relegation, arguably Fiorentina, who missed out on European football and look likely to miss out yet again on a Europa League berth will be the more disappointed with their showings this term. The Tuscan outfit are winless in their last four games, including a shockingly bad performance in a 4-1 loss to lowly Hellas Verona in their most recent match.
To make matters worse, that game was at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, a place where most expected Fiorentina to at least be stronger than in their travels. And to cap things off, the Gialloblu had been on a four game losing streak. Stefano Pioli did not mince his words post defeat and even admitted that the team would have to punch well above their weight if they wanted to have any remote chance of snatching a top six finish at the conclusion of the current term.
Indeed, all of this certainly will give Bologna some hope after their own loss last weekend.
It was hardly shocking that Roberto Donadoni’s men came back empty-handed on their travels. Juventus so far are the only side to have beaten Napoli in Serie A action [not counting Coppa Italia and the Champions League] at the Stadio San Paolo this season, so Bologna’s 3-1 defeat certainly was not earth-shattering nor newsworthy.
Bologna vs Fiorentina: Head-to-head statistics
- Fiorentina have won only one of their last six away league games (D3 L2).
- The Viola have not scored more than once in any of those matches on the road
- However, Fiorentina have won 6 of their last 7 matches against Bologna in all competitions
- Bologna have not drawn any of their last seven Serie A games (W2 L5)
Bologna vs Fiorentina: Prediction
Bologna have managed to score in eight of their last nine home games which certainly means they should be able to score against a Fiorentina side in bad form.
Although the Viola have managed to win six of their last seven meetings with Bologna across all competitions and the Rossoblu don’t have the best home record in the top flight, Bologna should be able to take advantage of a Fiorentina side who have won just one of their last six away league games.
Furthermore, this is a Fiorentina team who shockingly lost 4-1 to lowly Verona at home. Bologna will be kicking themselves if they can’t get something out of this game.
