Bologna vs Fiorentina
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 29 October 2016
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (Bologna).
Currently mired in the bottom half of the table, both Bologna and Fiorentina will be desperate for a win as they tussle at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara this Saturday.
The Rossoblu and the Viola are presently tied on 13 points and sit in 12th and 11th spot. Whilst Fiorentina’s points total are skewed as they have a game in hand, Paulo Sousa’s side have been nothing short of disappointing this term. Despite being pretty solid in their Europa League campaign, the Gigliati appear to suddenly morph into an entirely different side in league play.
There appeared to be signs of promise as they finally ended a three-match winless streak by defeating Cagliari 5-3. However, that victory was far from comfortable, as they were 5-1 up before giving their opponents a bit of a life-line as they conceded twice. Unfortunately, any slightly optimistic feelings were dashed in Fiorentina’s most recent game. The Viola were five minutes from suffering what would have been an embarrassing loss to Crotone, who had scored and were desperately playing everyone behind the ball in an attempt to secure their first-ever Serie A win.
Fortunately for the home team, Davide Astori’s late goal was enough to salvage not just a point, but their pride. However, fans will be still feeling pretty uneasy heading into this fixture as Fiorentina have a very bad away record. Yes, they have no problems scoring and won against Cagliari, but they shipped three goals. In fact, keeping clean sheets seems to be a major issue for Sousa’s side, and 90 per cent of their conceded goals are on the road.
As for Bologna, they have earned just four points out of a possible 15. The Rossoblu are winless in five games, but at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, they have picked up ten points – as opposed to the measly three on the road. In fact, they have lost just once: a 1-0 result to Genoa. And having settled for three straight 1-1 draws, Roberto Donadoni’s team will be hoping to use their home-pitch record to their advantage to pick up some much needed points.

Bologna vs Fiorentina: Prediction
Both teams are in a rut at the moment, but Fiorentina’s form will be the most perplexing to move Serie A followers. The Viola are struggling terribly for consistency and one can only wonder if they just may be throwing more of their efforts into the Europa League than domestic affairs. As for Bologna, who are a side content to finish in mid-table each season, they have been quite unlucky with injuries.
Key striker Mattia Destro has not been able to contribute much to the team’s cause. And now Donadoni comes into this match with at least three defensive options on the treatment table, further complicating things as they hope to end their five match winless run. All in all, this has all the makings of a draw written all over it. Bologna will try to maintain their solid home record. Indeed, the hosts should be able to do just enough to grind out a point against a team yet to still find their footing in Serie A this term.
