Bologna vs Atalanta
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 11 March 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara (Bologna).
Atalanta are seeking to make a return to the Europa League next season after a solid showing this term, but they’re six points away from the top six. Can they close the gap by picking up a much needed result against Bologna this Sunday?
Although they were dumped out of the Europa League by Borussia Dortmund, they’re hoping to feature again in it next season. They haven’t won in their last five games, but it’s important to note that those fixtures include two Coppa Italia meetings with Juventus in the semi-finals and two clashes with Dortmund in the Europa League round of 32. They surely will be fancying their chances, however, against Bologna, who saw their two game winning streak ended by SPAL last round.
Atalanta have won four of their last five away games in the league, including against Roma and AC Milan, both of whom are actually higher than them in the table. They also ended league leaders Napoli’s run in the Coppa Italia as well, and have a strong historical record against Bologna, with wins in six of their last seven meetings with the Rossoblu. In addition, now that they’re out of the Europa League and the Coppa Italia, they no longer have a midweek fixture to tie up their schedule.
Additionally, Bologna’s record against teams higher than them in the table is quite poor, to say the least. Although they managed to draw Inter earlier this season, they’re coming into this game having lost to SPAL, and overall, lost four of their last six. It seems like Roberto Donadoni’s side are content to float along in mid-table as they’re not really in danger of relegation nor are they anywhere near qualifying for a European football spot.

Bologna vs Atalanta: Prediction
Atalanta haven’t scored much in their travels, with over half of their away fixtures seeing less than three goals scored, so this game could go in the same vein. Bologna have struggled against Atalanta, where not only have they lost six of their last seven but have failed to score in four of their last six and could run into problems here as well.
