Blackburn vs West Brom
Date: Tuesday, 1 January 2019
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Ewood Park (Blackburn).
West Brom’s attacking line will be crippled without team’s main stars on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Lancashire to take on strugglers Blackburn Rovers. Team’s top scorer Dwight Gayle suffered an injury on Boxing Day, while his fellow forward Jay Rodriguez was sent off for the first time in his career in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw to Sheffiield Wednesday.
It was truly a disappointing weekend for the Baggies who ended the three-win thread in a winnable contest against managerless Owls. WBA were even lucky to have saved a point on the occasion as they bagged the equalizer only in the fifth minute of the added time thanks to David Jones’ own goal. They are still third, but just two points away from fourth-placed Sheffield United coming into mid-week’s clash with Blackburn.
Blackburn vs West Brom: Head-to-head
The two teams met each other for the first time in six years in late-October.
They shared spoils in a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns on the occasion.
WBA were not so successful in the history of matches at Ewood Park where they won 7, drew 7 and lost as many as 21 of 35 ties against the Riversiders.
Blackburn vs West Brom: Prediction
Luckily for Moore and his men, the opposition comes in the likes of Blackburn Rovers who have been struggling badly to keep things tight at the back of late. They shipped three toals in each of back-to-back away losses to Leeds United and Sheffield United.
Interestingly, Tony Mowbray’s men had a chance to get away with the spoils in both of these ties. They were 1-2 up at Elland Road on Boxing Day before conceding two stoppage-time goals to lose the affair. They had an extra man on Saturday at Bramall Lane, but failed to take advantage. Richard Smallwood was also sent off for Blackburn 20 minutes 20 minutes after Basham’s red card for the Blades. One of league’s top scorers, Billy Sharp, then became the hero with a brace within four minutes to seal points for Sheffield United.
The Riversiders lost only 2 of 12 home matches this term and should welcome top scorer Bradley Dack in the starting line-up here. Knowing that the visitors will be without their main two stars in the final third, we see the value in backing the hosts at 3.10 odds here.
