Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday
English League Championship
Date: Saturday, 27th October 2018
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: St Andrews (Birmingham)
Two sides currently sitting in the middle of the table face each other on Saturday as Birmingham City hosts Sheffield Wednesday.
Birmingham are performing well in the league following a difficult start of the season. The team now looks stable picking points even against the stronger sides. The Blues benefit from strong and organized defensive line and have the 4th best defensive record in the league.
Birmingham’s unbeaten run stretches to 10 games now as they not only avoided defeat against Reading midweek but won all the points. Following a goalless first half all the goal action came in the second. Birmingham took the lead early as Gardner found the net after 49 minutes of play. The casual suspect Jutkiewicz doubled in the 70th minute while Reading turned one back in just before the end.
Sheffield Wednesday showed some promise at some point of this season but now they have fallen into the mid table section again. Two consecutive losses hut their ambitions and dropped them into the table. They are 5 points away from the playoffs and unless they can start picking up more points they will have to settle for mid/top table finish at most.
The Owls suffered a second back to back defeat on Tuesday. This time their opponent was QPR. Wednesday didn’t have the best of times to say the least. The team controlled the tempo but the hosts were looking more dangerous than Sheffield. The lacked both the final pass and the finishing eventually leading to a heavy 3-0 defeat.
