Birmingham vs Aston Villa Prediction & Match Preview

Birmingham vs Aston Villa
English Championship
Date: Sunday, 10 March 2019
Kick-Off at 12:00 UK / 13:00 CET
Venue: St. Andrew’s Stadium (Birmingham).

The stage is set for a mouth-watering Second City derby which kicks off exactly at noon on Sunday as Birmingham City and Aston Villa take on each other at St. Andrew’s Stadium. Both teams are still in contention for the promotional play-offs meaning not only bragging rights will be at stake when they come across each other.

The Blues are in a somewhat better position being two points above thanks to a generally fine spell of form in 2019. However, they failed to back it up eight days ago falling 2-0 away at Hull City. The defeat at KCOM Stadium ruined the momentum Gary Monk’s men had.

Birmingham did create openings in the fixture against the Tigers, but the Lukas Jutkiewicz just could not deliver the final touch on the occasion.

Birmingham vs Aston Villa: Head-to-head

Aston Villa were the more successful outfit in the history of the Second City derby.

The Lions won 55, drew 32 and lost 38 of 125 encounters with their bitter rivals.

Aston Villa were particularly dominant in the most recent head to head history with four wins and two draws in past six meetings with the Blues.

The streak includes a 4-2 victory when teams met each other in late-November last year at Villa Park.

Birmingham’s last win over the Lions came back in 2010.

Birmingham vs Aston Villa: Prediction

Villa will come into the match in much higher spirits following a demolishing 4-0 victory over promotional challengers Derby County in the previous round. It was a massive win for Dean Smith’s squad who were previously winless in five consecutive league outings.

Conor Hourihane and Tammy Abraham were the main catalysts for such big with over the Rams and they will be team’s biggest strength here against fierce rivals.

Birmingham do not have the defensive stability required for stopping Aston Villa’s deadly attacking line-up led by Chelsea’s loanee Tammy Abraham. Looking at most recent head to head record, we just have to fancy the Lions not to lose at 1.45 odds. Backing goals at both ends is a must at 1.66 odds, though.
