Besiktas vs Fenerbahce
Turkey – Cup
Date: Thursday, 1 March 2018
Kick-Off at 17:30 UK
Venue: Vodafone Stadyumu (Istanbul).
Istanbul’s heavyweights Besiktas and Fenerbahce are set for another mouth-watering derby just four days after their clash in Super LIg. This time Turkish giants will take on each other in the first keg of their cup semifinal tie.
Besiktas came on top on Sunday thanks to an inspiring second-half display from Ricardo Quaresma who has completed a late brace to help his team move level on points with their bitter rivals at third position in the Super Lig standings. The league holders have thus kept ground on the likes of Galatasaray and Istanbul Basaksehir who are just three points above at the top of the standing and their title defense quest is once again on pace.
Nonetheless, Senol Gunes’ men have failed to stay competition in the last 16 round of their Champions League tie against German champions Bayern Munich. The Bavarians destroyed the Black Eagles 5-0 at Allianz Arena closing the tie before the rematch at Vodafone Stadyumu. We can thus expect Gunes to send his strongest lineup on the pitch for this cup clash with bitter rivals and we’d not be surprised to see Ricardo Quaresma shining once again against the same opposition.
Fenerbahce have generally enjoyed a fine spell of form prior to the mentioned loss to Besiktas and they’ve won three on the trot across competitions beforehand. The team led by Aykut Kocaman has been very tough to break down on most recent travels conceding just three goals in seven consecutive games away from home in all competitions before the loss to Besiktas.
Besiktas vs Fenerbahce: Head-to-head
The Black Eagles have extended their lead in the H2H tie with Fenerbahce to six wins ahead of the 281st H2H meeting between the two rivals.
At home, Besiktas have won 69 and lost 37 of 139 encounters with the Yellow Canaries.
Four of last six H2H matches between the two sides saw less than three goals scored.
Besiktas vs Fenerbahce: Prediction
Even though the league clash played four days ago saw seven goals, we expect a much tighter affair when the two teams meet in the semifinal of the cup.
Kocaman will try and park the bus this time out and we feel this strategy could work well for Fener who have improved their defensive displays of late (if we ignore the mentioned loss to Besiktas).
The value is in backing the draw, while our main betting call will be Under 2.5 goals FT at the odds of 1.95.
