Benfica vs FC Porto
Portugal – Cup
Date: Saturday, 1 August 2020
Kick-off at 20:45 UK/ 21:45 CET
Venue: Estádio EFAPEL Cidade de Coimbra.
After the Eagles won the league title the last season, the Dragons showed immense determination in winning it back this time around. Now, they are in the final of the Taca de Portugal, and have the opportunity to deliver the double for their fans who were heartbroken in 2019-20.
However, they must overcome the same team that they were in competition with for the last two years. Nelson Verissimo’s men have just lost their Primeira Liga Crown, and they need at least this domestic cup triumph to save face.
Moreover, after Sergio Conceicao’s men had beaten them to the punch in the league competition, it would be sweet revenge, if the Eagles could beat them in the final.
As such, we are about to witness a fierce game this weekend at the Estádio EFAPEL Cidade de Coimbra. And considering the sheer offensive talent on both rosters, along with what’s at stake, expect both teams to score goals.
Benfica vs Porto: Head-to-head (h2h)
- The Dragons had won three of the preceding four match-ups.
- They had also recorded 15 of the preceding 22 wins.
- Only once have they lost away from home in the last six years.
- Three of the preceding four overall encounters had three or more goals, as well as goals from both teams.
Benfica vs Porto: Prediction
Conceicao’s men are the champions of the Primeira Liga, and they had won six of their last seven overall fixtures. They were also unbeaten in eight of the preceding nine games as well.
Going on, they are on a two-match winning run against this opponent, and had scored two or more goals in three of the preceding four encounters. In addition, they had recorded 15 of the last 22 overall h2h wins, and have lost just once away from home in such games since 2014.
As such, expect Porto to at least avoid a loss this weekend.
However, understand that Verissimo’s men are the arch-rivals of this opponent, and they would be hell-bent on winning this game – especially after they lost the league title.
Moreover, they had scored two or more goals in seven of the last nine overall matches, and had also scored a total of 71 goals from their 34 games in the league.
As such, expect them to find the back of the net at least once against Porto.
