Benfica vs RB Leipzig
Date: Tuesday, 17 September 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Estádio da Luz (Lisabon).
Benfica wrapped up their previous campaign in style by finishing first in the Primeira Division and with Porto knocked out in the qualifiers, the hosts are currently the only Portuguese outfit left in the Champions League.
The squad have already begun their new campaign on a strong note, and have picked up the win in four of their last five games. Their last clash at this venue saw them slot two unanswered goals past Gil Vincente and will be hoping to extend their positive home form when they welcome Leipzig this week.
Their counterparts failed to progress past the group stages of this competition last time out and at the rate, they are going at the moment, they are sure to make amends this year. The visitors are at the top of the table in the Bundesliga and are yet to taste defeat in the new campaign as well.
Considering that they were also able to hold giants Bayern Munich to a draw in their most recent matchup, expect Leipzig to give Benfica a run for their money.
Benfica vs RB Leipzig Head to head (h2h)
Their only prior meeting which was in the Emirates Cup saw Leipzig register a 2-0 win over Benfica.
Benfica vs RB Leipzig Prediction
Bruno Lage’s men have got off to a solid start, with their only defeat coming at the hand of the runners up of last season, Porto. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that Benfica have already bounced back from that loss and are currently on a two-match winning streak.
Additionally, the hosts have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five games, one of which was on home soil. So, it goes without saying that they are certainly at their best when they have home advantage under their belt.
However, Benfica are squaring up against a visiting cavalry that has been picking up wins by a two-goal margin or more in their previous two outings. Taking into consideration that Leipzig have not admitted defeat in any of their last five games in a running either, the most that Benfica will be able to do would be to hold Leipzig to a draw, as a win for the hosts is definitely not on the cards.
Leipzig have found the back of the net before the break, in each of their previous four games in a row. Considering that four of the last seven goals for the visiting side and one of the only two goals for Benfica at home have also come in the first forty-five minutes, there is every reason to believe that there will be a goal, at the least, in the first half on Tuesday.
