Atalanta failed to match their record from the previous term of Serie A when they fought their way to the top-four finish to earn a spot in Europa League. Had they repeated it this year, their fans would be in position to listen to the Champions League anthem in Bergamo.
Nonetheless, La Dea will have to work hard to break into the top seven and secure another continental adventure this time out. They paid the price of solid runs in both Coppa Italia and Europa League this season and fatigue clearly did the job with the team currently sittings eighth with a two-point deficit to Milan in seventh.
Gianpiero Gasperini’s side is winless in last three league ties, but they’ll have a nice chance to end such run given they travel to Stadio Ciro Vigorito to play the rock-bottomed Benevento on Wednesday evening. The visitors will have to work hard to get points from there, though, considering Benevento’s most recent spell of form.
Atalanta won the only previous meeting with Benevento.
Bryan Cristante made the difference netting the lone goal of the game back in late-November last year at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.
Roberto De Zerbi’s men were pretty efficient in the final third lately. It was the striker from Mali, Cheick Diabate, who has been enjoying a fantastic shape lately netting two goals in each of last three Serie A outings for Benevento. The hosts do tend to concede loads, though, which is why they lost all hopes of saving the Serie A status in their maiden season in the elite.
Looking at Benevento’s most recent results, we can’t but back goals at both ends, set at decent-value 1.70 odds. As for the outcome, it’s really hard to back the away win at the 1.57 odds knowing that the hosts are red-hot in the final third and that the visitors are winless in last three straight outings.
Instead, we will be brave and back Cheick Diabate to score anytime at the 3.75 odds.
