Struggling champion will be looking to make it five in a row and continue Leipzig chase against on-form high flying Gelsenkirchen side in a Bundesliga classic.
Bayern Munich vs Schalke: Match Preview
The Bavarians turned on the style and unleashed all their fury in the second half against Hertha, with Thomas Müller, Robert Lewandowski, Thiago and Ivan Perisic all getting on the scoresheet as the hunt for Leipzig’s Red Bulls continues.
Currently at 2nd, just four points off Leipzig, Bayern found themselves once again forced to chase instead of sitting comfortably at the top, slacking off and being chased.
Monchengladbach and Dortmund are in close proximity but with their latest tendency of falling apart as season proceeds, this will most likely turn into two-horse race.
The Bavarian Beast was slain twice in front of the most demanding crowd in Germany, once under Kovac, once under his successor Flick but Allianz Arena’s still one of the most inhospitable places visiting side could go as Der FCB smashed their way to six wins and a draw with simply stunning goal difference.
Michael Gregoritsch notched a goal and an assist on his debut and led his team to an upset as they saw off title challenger Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 in the Bundesliga 2020 opener last Friday.
It was a win to extend their unbeaten run to four and keep Schalke’s dream for Champions League football alive as the Miners sit at 5th, tied on points with Dortmund but with a weaker goal difference.
Building upon ruins Domenico Tedesco left behind, David Wagner has done so far an excellent work returning Schalke to the top echelon of German football which included a massive improvements in approach to away games; numbers are much, much better compared to last season’s turmoil and with four wins and two draws from eight matches, Schalke now sit among better traveling sides.
Usual suspects occupy Bayern’s emergency room as Javier Martinez, Kingsley Coman and Niklas Süle are still out while Lucas Hernandez should be up and running soon enough. Not soon enough for Schalke clash, though.
As for the Royal Blues, there are so many unknowns… Salif Sané and Benjamin Stambouli are only sure absentees but Suat Serdar, Benito Raman and Amine Harit are all questionable with Weston McKennie really close to return following dislocating shoulder. Schalke’s captain Alexander Nubel is suspended as he saw red versus Frankfurt few weeks back.

Bayern Munich vs Schalke Prediction
It is really hard to recommend something in games with one clear and obvious favorite. Everything points out to Bayern comfortably walking over the Miners but aside from that there’s two obvious picks.
One of them is two or more goals in the second half. Apart from one or two instances, The Bavarians are very trigger-happy after the break and Schalke plays well with that as most of the goals on their matches are scored during second section of the game, which made my second pick pretty straightforward.
