Europe’s biggest football rivalry takes a new height when Bayern Munich and Real Madrid lock horns in the semi-final of the Champions League. The first leg of the double header will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday, 15th April 2018.
This has become a routine fixture in the Champions League in recent seasons with Bayern and Real are meeting in the knockout round of the competition for the 9th time since calendar year 2000. The Spaniards lead the head-to-head with 5 wins to 3 from previous 8 double legged ties.
Last season, the teams met in the quarterfinals and Madrid had the last laugh with a pair of wins. Their last semi-final meeting was in 2013/14 season, the Spaniards once again came on top and eventually ended up lifting the trophy.
Likewise, Bayern defeated Real in the semi-final of 2011/12 edition before clinching the title beating domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Interestingly, Bayern Munich were eliminated from the competition in the last four seasons by a Spanish team.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Head-to-head
Wednesday marks the 25th European meeting between the two sides and there is little to separate as they share 11 wins and 2 draws each from those encounters.
The Bavarians have an excellent home record against Real after winning in 9 of the 12 meetings at Munich; drawn 1 and lost 2. Still, those 2 defeats happened in the most recent battles.
Six – is the number of times they had come across at the semi-final of a UEFA competition, but Bayern lead that head-to-head with 4 wins to 2.
Both teams scored in 7 of their last 9 meetings at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Predictions
Real Madrid had a few stutters here and there in the route to the last four of the competition. But Bayern were sublime and there is no wonder that the bookies have picked them as favourites to win the first leg tie.
Still, this won’t be a straight forward affair as Zidane’s men proved their might in away trips recently. The 2-1 win at Paris and 3-0 win at Juve coupled with back-to-back wins in visits to Munich could boost their confidence here. As both teams have some quality match winners, I prefer not bet on the full-time result of this match.
The safe option for me is unarguably the both teams to score bet and one must be pretty confidence with the likes of Lewandowski and Ronaldo on opposite side of the goal. Considering, there has been only 1 draw in their last 22 meetings across all venue, the best punt is the combination of both teams to score and no draw for 2.15 odd with 10bet.
