Bayer Leverkusen vs Hertha Berlin: Prediction
Following victories v Bayern at Munich and Schalke 04 at BayArena, everyone expected them to continue their winning run versus their relegation-threatened local rivals. And yet, somehow, Die Werkself lost 2-0 at Cologne, getting two of their most important players sent off in the process.
Their battle for Champions League continues. Sitting at 7th, having won seven times, drawing four, losing four (22:20 GD), Peter Bosz’s men are only two points off Bayern at 4th.
They’re doing decent albeit unspectacular job at BayArena. Three wins, four draws and one loss, putting twelve goals past visiting teams while capitulating nine times. Last game in front of their own fans was an important 2-1-win versus Schalke, just few days before humiliating loss v Koln.
Jürgen Klinsmann celebrated his first win as Hertha manager (after a loss and a draw), as Darida’s strike was enough to see off overachieving Freiburg.
The Old Lady got threatened by relegation following their five-game losing run but latest win reinvigorated stumbling side. At the moment at 13th, after four wins, two draws and shambolic eight defeats, team from the capital is three points away from relegation dogfight.
Away from Olympiastadion, their form faltered. Far from worst of the worst on the road but only one win, three draws and four defeats (10:15 GD)… Team their size should do better.
Bosz will be missing out on Weiser and Pohjanpalo due to injuries while Alexander Dragovic and Leon Bailey will cool it off on the stands after red cards last round.
Speaking of Berlin side, Mathew Leckie, Maurice Covic and Sidney Friede are back in training and should be available for selection.
I’m not entirely convinced Leverkusen is winning this. While they have stronger team, their home form is really dodgy of late. Not to mention, they’ll be missing couple of important players. But I can recommend goals. Over 2.5 is almost given, taking their h2h meetings into account and host’s last few games. Also, more goals in second half is very plausible, judging by Herta’s last few excursions.
